Heavy Absentee Voting Reported In Falls Church

Vote According to sources close to the Falls Church City Registrar, more than 16 percent of city registered voters had already voted by absentee ballot as of early morning Friday, October 31st.

The deadline for applying and casting an absentee ballot in person is Saturday, November 1, 2008.  An absentee ballot application can be found online at: Virginia absentee ballot application.   The SBE site has additional information on absentee ballot procedures.

Falls Church typically has the highest per capita voter turnout in Virginia and is one of the most Democratic jurisidtictions in the Commonwealth.  The Obama Campaign has a campaign office in the City (350 S. Washington Street) which has received national attention for its organization.  The local office has been focused almost exclusively on voter identification and turnout in the greater Falls Church area.  On Friday the camapign office was filled to overflowing with volunteers and the large parking lot was filled with the cars of campaign workers.

The City Registrar has a signs and a manned reception desk to direct absentee voters to the right location.  At noon on Friday there were no lines but a steady stream of voters being helped by a handful of volunteers.
