The US Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Center and Global Insight,Inc. have just released a national Green Jobs Index report that calculates a baseline of current green jobs in the economy. "Green Jobs" are considered across a wide range of professional disciplines (such as engineering, legal, research, consulting, construction, government administration, etc.) that reduce fossil fuels, increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. According to the report, the DC region currently supports 24,287 jobs--that's the second highest regional number behind New York City's 25,021.
The report also forecasts Green Job growth over the next 30 years. Here's the potential good news for Falls Church--it is estimated that in 2038 the DC region will have expanded to 192,965 Green Jobs--remaining the second largest region in job growth behind the estimates for New York City at 197,971 jobs.
One of the concluding statements in the report says, "the future is about how cities and metro areas position themselves for a larger share of the growth in green jobs." It seems Falls Church could benefit greatly over the coming decades by "branding" itself as an excellent location for residential and commercial office space as well as retail services for the predicted regional upsurge in Green Jobs.
