Welcome to Blueweeds.
The blueweed is an actual plant defined as "a noxious regional weed with no known biological controls." The blog is not named after the plant, but the correlation is somehow appropriate.
Blueweeds (the blog) exists as a forum for discussing events related to politics, life, and events impacting The City of Falls Church, Virginia.
Blueweeds has three regular authors: Mike, Bob, and David. Guest authors are also welcome.
I founded Blueweeds and post on a variety of topics, with a focus on local and regional progressive politics. My prespective is generally as a populist Democrat active in local Democratic politics. I was a member of the local Democratic committee for a number of years, including serving as a local committee Chair and a representative on regional and state Democratic organizations. Married with young children, my wife Robin has been on City Council since 2000 as is currently Mayor of Falls Church City.
Bob joined Blueweeds in February 2008 and posts mainly on design elements in public space. Bob is generally politically progressive. Bob is Vice President and Creative Director of GVI. He has many years experience creating media for public education and advocacy and oversee all programs produced for GVI clients. He currently serves as Media Adviser and Creative Consultant to the US Conference of Mayors, designing video and web media that explores critical issues facing our nation's cities. He also oversees programming for the City Livability Awards, which communicates innovations and best practices to help mayors and citizens across America. In Falls Church, he has served as a Falls Church City Planning Commissioner (2003-2006) and as co-chair of a successful $29 million school bond referendum for the City. Bob is a current board member of the Falls Church Housing Corporation and lives in Falls Church with his wife and children.
David will begin posting on Blueweeds in July 2008. David is Republican, but not a party activist. He is currently a member of the Falls Church City Council and is expected to post primarily on political and economic trends impacting our community.
Not a lot of rules at Blueweeds. The blog is locally focused. We do not accept donations or advertisements. Occasionally there is humor. We do not blog about work and try not to blog about personal issues when posting criticisms of public officials.
The opinions expressed by users of the weblog are attributable only to the individual author and third party comments do not neccessarily reflect those of Blueweeds.
There are some other guidelines we follow - one day we'll get them out in a more formal way on a seperate page.
If you have a concern about a post, please let me know and I will carefully consider your objection.
In the meantime, enjoy Blueweeds.
